French national census of diethylstilbestrol victims

Who are the victims of diethylstilbestrol?

Approximately 200,000 pregnant women would have taken diethylstilbestrol (Distilbène®, Stilbestrol-Borne® or Furostilboestrol® - a delayed release form) during pregnancy or after childbirth (for example to artificially suppress lactation); they are the first victims of DES

160,000 children would be born from these pregnancies. They are called les enfants du Distilbène (the DES Children), or DES sons and DES daughters.

Many of them have had – often with great difficulty – children. These are the DES grandchildren, the third generation of DES victims

These grandchildren have in turn had children : it is the fourth generation.


The number of victims : one of the biggest question marks

The problem with these numbers, established mainly on the basis of the sales directories of the laboratories, is that they have been quoted for almost 40 years without any new evaluation.

Even worse, there is no victims' register.

Thus, we have no idea of the real and current number of victims.

We want answers that is why we have launched this French national census of the victims of diethylstilbestrol.
